Worth the wait?

Monday morning I met someone at Bagel Boy on Shirley Avenue, just behind Home Depot. I was there at 6:30 or so and was surprised at the traffic at a local gas station.

Then I saw the price: $0.009.

A mistake?

Then I saw police cars. And a two-row line of traffic extending beyond Sonic!

The reason? Free gas from All-State insurance- a reward for Sioux Falls drivers leading the nation in low accident rate- one accident per driver every 13 years!

Now if you live in Sioux Falls that may be hard to buy- I love our city, but our drivers are Minneapolitan. But I digress.

I calculated that waiting in line for 2 hours for 10 gallons of $4 fuel calculates to about $20 per hour, not factoring in fuel used while idling/starting/stopping your engine.

I don't think I'd do it, even if I had heard about it in advance.

So, what would I invest that amount of time in? Would I wait in line to hear a great message? To spend time with Jesus- no wait required? To tell someone about the Gospel? Seriously, if I would wait two hours for $40, why should I run off because I'm too busy to wait for a chance to visit with an eternal human soul?

Or how about paying a price of time to invest in your spouse, your children, your parents, your neighbors- or some precious eternal human soul in your life?

Luther said that the last part of a man to be converted is his pocketbook. In today's society I think the last part is his pocket watch.

We must work the works of Him who sent Me while it is day; night is coming, when no one can work. -John 9:4

God has given you 1440 minutes today. Rest in Christ for every one of them, and...

...go serve your King,
