An old friend

I have more to share from last week's great ministry at Bethany Bible Camp, but this is on my mind today from my quiet time with Jesus. I've mentioned this before, but it's an old friend worth revisiting.

1 Peter 5:6-9- Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you,  casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you. Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. Resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same kinds of suffering are being experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world.

We often give advice countering anxiety like "cast all your cares on Him..." There is even a song like that. But notice that the "casting" isn't the main verb or command, but a description of something else. The command is "humble yourself under the mighty hand of God." Casting all your cares on Him is part of the humbling.

What would your anxiety look like if you weren't so concerned about your own appearance or reputation, but only with steadfast following of our Lord Jesus Christ and obedience to His Word?

Blows mine away.

See you tomorrow, and go serve your King!
